How to use this calculator
Start with the deterministic fixture values already shown, then replace each input with measurements from your job. Use consistent units and review the highlighted assumptions before using the result in purchasing or production.
Formula and method
EAN-8 uses the GS1 modulo-10 calculation: multiply body digits by alternating 3 and 1 weights from the right, sum them, and complete the next multiple of ten.
Worked example
EAN-8 body 9638507 has weighted sum 86 and check digit 4, producing 96385074.
How to interpret the result
EAN-8 is a compact GTIN representation for appropriately allocated items. Keep all seven body digits, including leading zeros.
Limitations
This tool validates arithmetic only and does not issue, allocate or certify EAN-8 numbers or barcode artwork.
